Paramedic science is the health profession at the front line of emergency care, responsible for responding to medical emergencies in the community, assessing patients in complex and time-critical situations, and making clinical decisions with limited resources before and during transfer to hospital. Paramedics work within the ambulance service and increasingly in a range of urgent and unscheduled care settings, and the profession has evolved substantially in recent decades from a transport and first aid role into a genuinely clinical and autonomous one.
