About this course
Mechanical engineering is the broadest engineering discipline, concerned with designing, analysing, manufacturing and maintaining systems and devices that involve forces, motion, energy and materials. It sits behind a vast range of human activities, from the turbines that generate electricity and the engines that power transport to the mechanisms of medical devices and the thermal management systems inside computers. Mechanical engineers must combine deep analytical knowledge with creativity and practical judgement, and the degree develops all of these. At Swansea University, the three-year full-time BEng programme is built on the belief that hands-on experience is as important as theoretical understanding. You will study engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, materials science, manufacturing processes, control systems and engineering design, developing the quantitative
