About this course
Physics with astrophysics takes one of the most fundamental of the natural sciences and opens it out onto the largest possible canvas, from the quantum behaviour of elementary particles to the structure and evolution of galaxies and the universe itself. Physics provides the mathematical and conceptual framework, the laws of motion, electromagnetism, thermodynamics and quantum mechanics, that astrophysics applies to understanding stars, planetary systems, black holes, dark matter and the cosmological processes that gave rise to the universe we inhabit. Studying both together means developing rigorous quantitative skills alongside the capacity to engage with some of the most profound questions science has ever asked. At the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, this four-year extended degree programme gives you extra time to develop your understanding before moving into the full depth o
