Astrophysics applies the principles of physics to astronomical phenomena, seeking to understand the nature and behaviour of stars, galaxies, black holes, dark matter, and the universe itself. It is a discipline that confronts some of the most profound questions in science, from the origins of the cosmos and the mechanisms of stellar evolution to the search for planets that might harbour life. Astrophysicists use observations from ground-based and space telescopes, theoretical modelling, and computational simulation to build and test their understanding of the universe, working at the cutting edge of human knowledge.
