Early childhood education is the professional and academic field concerned with the care, development, and learning of children from birth through to the start of compulsory schooling and beyond. It draws on developmental psychology, education theory, health and wellbeing research, and social policy to understand what children need and how practitioners can best support their growth across all domains: physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and communicative.
