About this course

Geography, sustainable development, and climate change is a degree for the moment we are in: a period when the interrelationships between human systems and the natural environment have become one of the defining challenges of our time. Geography provides the analytical framework for understanding how people, places, and environments are connected. Sustainable development examines how those connections can be managed in ways that meet present needs without compromising the future. Climate change addresses the most urgent systemic risk of the twenty-first century, asking how it is happening, what its consequences are, and what can be done. At the University of Sussex, you will explore these themes together, examining how disasters, food insecurity, migration, inequality, and environmental policy are all connected in complex systems that require interdisciplinary understanding to address.
