About this course

Molecular biology is one of the great intellectual achievements of twentieth century science. Beginning with the discovery of the structure of DNA in the 1950s and culminating in the sequencing of the human genome, molecular biology has transformed our understanding of how living organisms work, how genes are expressed and regulated, and how mutations underlie disease. Today it underpins entire industries in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, and it continues to advance rapidly, with genome engineering technologies now enabling precise editing of DNA in ways that will have profound impacts on medicine, agriculture, and our understanding of life itself. At the University of Aberdeen, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you international research experience alongside the core academic content. The programme moves from foundational molecular and cellular biolo
