About this course
Paramedic science prepares you to work at the sharp end of urgent and emergency care, responding to medical emergencies, trauma, and acute illness in community and pre-hospital settings. Paramedics are highly skilled clinicians who make critical decisions independently, often in complex and high-pressure situations, and the science underpinning that role draws on anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, and clinical reasoning. The profession has expanded considerably in scope and recognition in recent years, with paramedics taking on roles that extend well beyond emergency response into urgent care, primary care, and specialist clinical practice. Swansea University's three-year full-time programme in paramedic science is designed to meet the standards required for registration as a qualified paramedic, combining academic study with substantial clinical placement experience.
