About this course

Philosophy and politics address some of the most enduring and pressing questions in human life: what is justice, how should power be distributed, what do we owe to one another, and on what grounds can political authority claim our allegiance? Studied together, these two disciplines form a particularly powerful combination. Philosophy provides the tools for rigorous conceptual analysis and ethical reasoning; political science brings those tools to bear on the real structures of states, international institutions, parties, and movements. The result is a mode of inquiry that is both principled and empirically grounded.
