About this course
Physics is the science that seeks to understand the fundamental laws governing the behaviour of matter and energy across all scales, from subatomic particles to the large-scale structure of the universe. Its insights underpin every other natural science and much of modern technology, from the semiconductors in computing hardware to the lasers used in surgery and manufacturing, and from the materials used in aerospace to the instruments that detect gravitational waves. Studying physics develops a particular kind of disciplined curiosity: the ability to ask precise questions about the world and to construct rigorous answers using mathematics, experiment, and theoretical reasoning. At the University of Hull, this four-year full-time programme gives you a thorough grounding in fundamental physics and mathematics, covering classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, thermodynam
