About this course

Criminology and law address complementary questions about crime and the systems societies use to respond to it. Criminology asks why crime occurs, who is affected by it, and how criminal justice institutions, from the police and courts to prisons and probation services, operate and whether they succeed. Law examines the formal rules and processes that define criminal conduct and govern the state's response to it. Together they give you both the social-scientific framework for understanding crime as a phenomenon and the legal literacy to engage with the systems that deal with it. At Coventry this three-year full-time degree equips you to explore crime, its causes, and its societal impact alongside the criminal law and the institutions of criminal justice, both nationally and internationally.
