About this course

Illustration is a discipline that sits at the intersection of art, communication, and storytelling. At its best it does something no other visual medium does quite as well: it translates ideas, emotions, and narratives into images that can reach audiences across contexts, from children's books and editorial work to political commentary, scientific visualisation, and animation. The illustrator must be both a skilled visual maker and a precise communicator, understanding not just how to create images but how images carry meaning and speak to particular audiences. At Portsmouth this three-year full-time programme combines traditional and contemporary illustration techniques in a way that prepares you for the breadth of the field.
