Zoology is the scientific study of animal life in all its extraordinary diversity: from the molecular mechanisms that govern cell behaviour to the ecological relationships that structure entire ecosystems. It is one of the broadest of the biological sciences, drawing on genetics, evolution, physiology, behaviour, and ecology to understand how animals function, how they have diversified over billions of years, and how they interact with each other and with their environments.
