About this course
Civil engineering is the discipline responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of the infrastructure that modern societies depend on: roads, bridges, railways, tunnels, water systems, flood defences, ports, airports, and the foundations and frames of large structures. It is one of the oldest engineering disciplines and one of the most enduringly relevant, combining structural, geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental, and materials expertise to address challenges that are simultaneously technical, economic, and societal.
