Sociology asks the questions that lie beneath the surface of everyday life: why do some people succeed while others face persistent barriers, how do institutions shape what is possible for different groups, what drives social change, and how do culture, identity, and structure interact? It is a discipline that trains you to see the social world not as natural or inevitable but as something produced by human choices and arrangements that could, in principle, be different. At the University of the West of England in Bristol you will engage with the major theoretical traditions in sociology alongside the research methods that allow sociologists to investigate the social world empirically.
