About this course
Art history and language is a combination that develops two complementary forms of cultural intelligence. Art history is the study of the visual arts in their historical, social, and cultural contexts, asking how images, objects, and spaces are made, what they mean, and how they have been understood across different times and places. It develops close looking, interpretive rigour, and a broad historical and cultural literacy. A modern language develops your ability to communicate in another tongue and to access the cultures and ideas expressed in that language, enriching your understanding of the art and visual culture produced in different national traditions.
