Chemistry for Drug Discovery with professional placement or study abroad
BSc · The University of Bath · 4 years
About this course
Chemistry for drug discovery is a specialised degree that focuses the tools and methods of chemistry on one of the most consequential applications of the science: the development of new medicines. Understanding how small molecules interact with biological targets, how to design and synthesise compounds with specific properties, and how to optimise drug candidates through iterative chemical modification are at the heart of the pharmaceutical research process. This degree combines the foundational training of an organic and medicinal chemistry education with the biological and pharmacological knowledge needed to understand what makes a drug effective, selective, and safe. At the University of Bath, this four-year programme includes either a professional placement or a year abroad, giving you direct experience of working in a research or industrial environment relevant to drug discovery.
