About this course

Geography is the study of the relationships between human society and the physical world, examining how places are shaped, how they change, and how the processes that govern them connect across scales from local communities to global systems. It is a discipline that bridges the natural and social sciences, asking questions about climate and landscape alongside questions about inequality, urbanisation, and cultural identity. This dual nature makes geography unusual in its scope and distinctive in its relevance to the challenges facing contemporary societies. At Birkbeck College, this four-year full-time programme, which includes a foundation year, is led by researchers active at the frontier of the field. You will develop skills and knowledge to understand the changing physical and social environment, exploring the connections between space, place, human culture, and physical landscapes.
