History and Philosophy are disciplines that have been in conversation since the ancient world: philosophy asks timeless questions about knowledge, morality, existence, and reason, while history examines how ideas, institutions, and people have changed across time. Studying them together allows you to bring historical perspective to philosophical questions and philosophical rigour to historical problems, which makes you more alert to contingency when you engage with abstract theory and more conceptually precise when you engage with historical evidence. At the University of Stirling, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study in a different academic culture and to encounter philosophical and historical traditions beyond the British and Scottish contexts in which you begin.
