Midwifery is the profession dedicated to supporting women through pregnancy, labour, birth and the early weeks of new parenthood, providing both clinical care and the human presence that makes an enormous difference at one of the most significant and vulnerable moments of a person's life. Midwives work with normal physiology as their primary frame, supporting physiological birth wherever possible while recognising and responding to complications that require medical input. The role demands a combination of clinical knowledge, practical skill, emotional intelligence and the confidence to advocate for women and their babies in complex and sometimes pressured clinical environments.
