Biological sciences is one of the most expansive and rapidly changing fields in modern science, encompassing the study of life at every scale from the molecular machinery of cells to the dynamics of entire ecosystems. It includes exploration of biological diversity, systematics, and conservation; cell and tissue structure, function, and physiology; ecology and behaviour; the form and function of microorganisms, protists, fungi, plants, and animals; genetics; and the mechanisms and pathways of evolution. The discipline is unified by the question of how life works and how it has come to be so varied, and it connects to some of the most urgent practical challenges in medicine, conservation, agriculture, and biotechnology.
