Earth and planetary science asks some of the grandest questions available to any scientist: how did the Solar System form, what makes a planet geologically active, what are the conditions that allow life to exist, and how do geological processes shape the surfaces and interiors of worlds across billions of years? It is an inherently interdisciplinary field, drawing on geology, geophysics, physics, chemistry, and astronomy to understand not just our own planet but the full range of objects in the Solar System, from the inner rocky planets and their moons to asteroids, comets, and the outer gas giants. At Imperial you will study the geology and geophysics of Earth alongside the broader planetary context, examining how the processes at work on our own world compare to those on other planets and moons.
