As organisations of every kind have become dependent on interconnected software systems, the attack surface exposed to malicious actors has grown enormously. Cybersecurity is the discipline concerned with understanding how these attacks occur, how vulnerabilities in systems can be identified and remediated, and how organisations can build the defences, processes, and cultures needed to protect their data and operations. It requires a deep understanding of both computer science and the adversarial human behaviour that exploits weaknesses in systems.
