About this course

Learning disabilities nursing is a specialist branch of nursing focused on supporting people with learning disabilities to live as full and healthy a life as possible. Learning disabilities encompass a wide range of conditions that affect intellectual and adaptive functioning, and people with learning disabilities have higher rates of health problems and greater difficulty navigating healthcare systems than the general population. Learning disabilities nurses work to address these inequalities, advocating for patients, supporting independence, and providing holistic care that addresses physical health, mental health, and wellbeing together. This three-year full-time programme at the University of Gloucestershire leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a learning disabilities nurse.
