Mental health nursing is one of the most demanding and most important specialisms within the nursing profession, combining clinical knowledge with the sustained relational skills that enable therapeutic relationships with people experiencing some of the most difficult challenges a human being can face. Mental health nurses work across inpatient, community and crisis settings, providing assessment, care planning, psychological intervention, medication management and the kind of continuous human presence that can be the difference between a person's stability and a crisis spiralling further. At the University of Derby, this direct entry programme is designed specifically for applicants who already hold a Foundation Degree and are registered as Nursing Associates, offering an 18-month full-time accelerated route to registration as a mental health nurse.
