Building surveying is the professional discipline concerned with the technical inspection, assessment and management of buildings and construction projects across their full lifecycle. Building surveyors advise on the condition of existing buildings, oversee maintenance and repair programmes, manage construction and refurbishment projects, advise on building regulations compliance and heritage conservation, and provide expert opinion on building pathology, the diagnosis of defects and the appropriate remediation strategies. The profession requires a combination of technical knowledge of construction technology, building law and professional practice skills, and it is central to the management of the UK's enormous existing building stock.
