Civil and environmental engineering addresses two of the most pressing challenges of the century: how to build and maintain the physical infrastructure that modern societies depend on, and how to do so in ways that are sustainable and minimise environmental damage. Civil engineers design and oversee the construction of roads, bridges, buildings, water systems, and the infrastructure of cities. Environmental engineering focuses on the management and mitigation of environmental risks, from water treatment and pollution control to flood management and sustainable drainage. Combining the two fields equips you to practice engineering with the environmental intelligence that employers and regulatory bodies increasingly require.
