Psychology and cognitive neuroscience together address the relationship between the brain and the mind, examining both the mental processes through which people perceive, think, remember, and reason, and the neural mechanisms that underlie those processes. Psychology brings the conceptual frameworks and scientific methods of the behavioural sciences, while cognitive neuroscience contributes the neuroscientific tools and paradigms that allow researchers to investigate the brain directly. Their combination is increasingly central to understanding conditions from memory disorders and depression to the neural basis of decision-making and consciousness.
