About this course

Anthropology is the study of human beings in all their diversity, across time and space. It asks how people live, what they believe, how they organise their societies, and how they have evolved as a biological and cultural species. The discipline is unusual in combining scientific and humanistic approaches, drawing on archaeology, evolutionary biology, social theory, and ethnographic fieldwork to build a picture of what it means to be human that no single approach could achieve alone. This breadth gives anthropology a distinctive and powerful perspective on contemporary as well as historical questions.
