Special educational needs and disabilities, known as SEND, is an area of educational practice and policy concerned with supporting children and young people who face barriers to learning, whether due to cognitive differences, physical or sensory impairments, communication difficulties, mental health conditions, or a combination of these. Inclusion, as a principle, holds that all learners should be able to access meaningful education in appropriate settings, and this requires professionals who understand both the individual needs of learners and the systemic changes needed to create genuinely inclusive environments.
