About this course

Economics is the social science that examines how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions about the allocation of scarce resources, and how those decisions aggregate into the patterns of production, exchange, and consumption that make up an economy. It is both a theoretical discipline, developing formal models of human behaviour and market dynamics, and an applied one, providing tools for policy analysis, business strategy, and the interpretation of the quantitative data that describe economic life. Studying economics develops rigorous analytical thinking, quantitative skill, and the ability to reason carefully about trade-offs and unintended consequences. Sheffield Hallam University's three-year full-time Economics degree includes a foundation year and a sandwich year with work placement opportunities, carrying a typical entry tariff of 104 points.
