Editing and visual effects are the disciplines that transform raw filmed material into the finished screen product that audiences see. Editing involves the selection, sequencing and pacing of footage to create narrative flow, emotional rhythm and meaning, while visual effects encompass the digital creation of images, environments and effects that cannot be captured in camera. Together, they are among the most technically specialised and creatively demanding crafts in the film and broadcast industries, and the professionals who practise them are central to the production of everything from feature films and television drama to commercials and documentary.
