Early childhood studies is a multidisciplinary field that draws on developmental psychology, sociology, education, health, and social policy to develop a deep understanding of the lives, learning, and wellbeing of children in the earliest years of their lives. It takes seriously the research evidence that the first years are foundational, that experiences in early childhood shape cognitive, social, and emotional development in ways that matter for the rest of a person's life, and it asks what follows from that evidence for the way early childhood services are organised, delivered, and resourced.
