About this course

Literature and theology is a degree that brings two of the oldest and most humanistically rich of academic disciplines into sustained conversation. Literature examines how writers use language to represent human experience, create meaning, and engage readers in aesthetic, ethical, and imaginative encounters with the world. Theology examines the foundational beliefs, texts, practices, and traditions of religion, asking how human beings have understood the sacred and how religious thought and practice have shaped culture, ethics, and society. The two disciplines have always been intertwined: some of the world's greatest literature is theological, and some of the most important theological writing is literary.
