Chemical engineering and chemistry together span the scientific principles of matter and the engineering processes that put those principles to practical use at industrial scale. Chemistry gives you deep understanding of the molecular world: how atoms bond, how reactions occur, and how new compounds can be synthesised and characterised. Chemical engineering takes that understanding and asks how reactions and separations can be carried out continuously, safely, economically and at the scale that industry demands. Together they form a curriculum that moves fluently between laboratory science and process design. At the University of Huddersfield the programme splits equally between the two subject areas, building a solid grounding in both chemical engineering fundamentals and core chemistry.
