Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world by number of first-language speakers, with significant populations across Spain, Latin America, the United States and beyond. For a journalist, the ability to work in Spanish, to understand Spanish-speaking cultures and political contexts and to access Spanish-language sources directly is a significant professional asset, particularly as global events increasingly involve those regions. Journalism, meanwhile, provides the practical and intellectual training to find, verify and communicate stories in ways that serve the public interest.
