It encompasses everything from the design of small components to the development of complex machines, from thermal and fluid systems to robotics and advanced manufacturing. Mechanical engineers work in virtually every sector of the economy, because the principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, and dynamics apply wherever physical systems need to be designed and made to work reliably.
