Mechatronic engineering is the discipline that brings mechanical engineering together with electronics, computing and control systems to design intelligent machines and automated systems. Where a purely mechanical engineer might design a structure or machine to move and function, a mechatronics engineer designs systems that can sense their environment, process information, and respond adaptively. Robots, autonomous vehicles, smart manufacturing systems, medical devices and consumer electronics all depend on this kind of integrated design thinking.
