About this course
Sport coaching is the professional practice of facilitating learning and development in athletes and participants at every level of sport, from grassroots participation through to elite performance. Effective coaching draws on knowledge of physiology, psychology, pedagogy, biomechanics, and sports science, but it is also a deeply human activity that requires communication skills, empathy, the ability to build trust, and sensitivity to the diverse needs of different athletes. The discipline asks how people learn movement skills, how motivation and mental resilience are developed, how team dynamics are managed, and how coaching practice can be made more inclusive and effective.
