About this course

English at Cambridge is one of the most intellectually demanding literary degrees in the world, distinguished by its historical breadth, its theoretical rigour, and its commitment to close reading as both a method and a discipline. You will engage with writing in English from the earliest medieval texts through to contemporary fiction, poetry, and drama, developing the ability to read with attention and precision, to situate texts within their historical and cultural contexts, and to construct original arguments supported by careful textual analysis. This three-year, full-time programme introduces you to different types of writing, including prose fiction, drama, and poetry, before giving you increasing scope to specialise and develop your own intellectual interests within the discipline.
