About this course

Mathematics at the University of Glasgow is a four-year programme that takes you from a rigorous foundation in the major branches of the subject through to advanced study in the areas that most interest you. The discipline is simultaneously one of humanity's oldest intellectual achievements and one of its most contemporary tools, providing the language of the natural sciences, the foundations of computing and cryptography, and the analytical framework for finance, data science and a vast range of other applications. At its core, mathematics is the practice of establishing truth through proof, and the habits of mind it develops are unlike those cultivated by any other discipline. You will study analysis, algebra, probability, statistics, applied mathematics and numerical methods, developing both the abstract reasoning and the computational skills that modern mathematical practice demands
