About this course

Naval architecture with ocean engineering is the discipline concerned with the design, construction, and operation of ships, submarines, offshore platforms, and other marine structures. It draws on fluid mechanics, structural engineering, thermodynamics, and control systems, applying them to vessels and structures that must function reliably in one of the most challenging environments on earth. Naval architects need to predict the stability and safety of ships, calculate their strength under load, determine their speed and propulsion requirements, and estimate how they will behave in rough seas and extreme weather conditions. The discipline underpins a global maritime industry that carries more than ninety percent of world trade. At the University of Strathclyde this four-year programme, which includes a year abroad, is delivered by one of the world's leading departments in naval archit
