Songwriting and performance is a discipline that sits at the heart of the music industry, asking how songs are crafted, developed, and brought to life in performance. Songwriting is both an art and a craft: it requires melodic instincts and lyrical imagination, but also structural understanding, harmonic knowledge, and the ability to edit and refine ideas until they do what you want them to do. Performance adds another layer, asking how a songwriter presents their work, communicates with an audience, and develops a compelling stage presence and artistic identity. The two are deeply interconnected for singer-songwriters who both write and perform their own material.
