Astronautics and space engineering is a discipline at the frontier of human technical ambition, concerned with the design, construction, and operation of spacecraft, satellites, launch systems, and the associated ground infrastructure that makes space-based technology possible. It draws on aerodynamics, propulsion, orbital mechanics, structures, materials, avionics, and systems engineering to produce graduates who can work on some of the most technically demanding projects in existence. The commercial space sector is expanding rapidly, and space-based systems are now central to telecommunications, navigation, weather forecasting, Earth observation, and national security.
