Computer science is the study of computation, from the mathematical and logical foundations on which all digital systems rest to the algorithms, data structures, programming languages and software architectures through which computers solve real problems. It is a field that rewards both precision and creativity, demanding the ability to think abstractly about complex systems while also building things that work in the world. As computing becomes embedded in every sector of the economy, the skills of a computer scientist are among the most broadly applicable of any discipline. At Nottingham, this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing an extended route into the degree that builds the mathematical and computational foundations needed for degree-level study.
