About this course

Sociology and global sustainable development is a combination that brings the analytical tools of social science to bear on some of the most urgent questions facing humanity. Sociology examines how societies are organised, how power and inequality are distributed, how identity is constructed through race, gender, ethnicity, and class, and how social change happens. Global sustainable development asks how human societies can meet their current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs, addressing wealth inequality, resource use, food security, and the political economy of development. Together, as the University of Warwick describes it, the combination applies sociological concepts directly to global issues and uses a transdisciplinary approach that gives you freedom to research the topics that most interest you.
