BSc Business Analytics
About this course
Business analytics brings together the tools of data science and the frameworks of business thinking to help organisations make better decisions. As the volume and variety of available data has grown, so too has the demand for people who can collect, clean, analyse and interpret it in ways that are genuinely useful to managers and strategists. This degree prepares you to operate at that intersection, combining technical proficiency with commercial understanding. The University of Brighton offers this programme with an optional foundation year, making it accessible to students who need to consolidate their quantitative and academic foundations before the main degree content begins. The foundation year is followed by three years of full-time study leading to an honours degree. Throughout the programme you will develop skills in data analysis, statistical modelling, database management, business intelligence tools and the communication of quantitative findings to non-specialist audiences. You will explore how analytics is applied across different business functions, including finance, marketing, operations and human resources, and you will develop the critical thinking needed to assess what data can and cannot tell you. A sandwich year in industry is included, which gives you the opportunity to spend an extended period working in a professional analytics or business environment, bringing your skills into contact with real organisational problems before your final year of study. The discipline trains you to be comfortable with ambiguity and to ask good questions before reaching for analytical tools. You will learn that the value of data analysis lies not in the sophistication of the method but in the quality of the insights it generates and the decisions it informs. Graduates enter roles in business intelligence, data analysis, financial analysis, management consultancy, marketing analytics and operations research across almost every sector. The combination of technical and business skills is highly valued, and postgraduate study in data science, business analytics or management is a natural progression for those who wish to specialise or move into senior analytical roles.
