BSc Business and Management / French
About this course
Business and management combined with French is a degree that prepares you for international commercial careers, equipping you with both the analytical frameworks of management and the linguistic and cultural competence to operate effectively in French-speaking markets. France is one of the UK's largest trading partners and French is spoken on every continent, making genuine French language ability a significant professional asset in fields from financial services and consultancy to international development and diplomacy. At Aberystwyth University, this four-year degree is delivered across the Business School and the Department of Modern Languages, reflecting a programme designed for students who want to engage with the business world from the outset, as the university describes it. You will study the core disciplines of management, including strategic management, marketing, finance, organisational behaviour, international business and entrepreneurship, alongside French language development at an advanced level and engagement with French-speaking culture, society, literature and history. The programme is designed to develop students who can operate at a high level in both the business and linguistic dimensions of international careers, not merely as competent managers who also speak French, but as professionals for whom linguistic and cultural fluency is genuinely integrated into their commercial practice. The combination develops analytical and communicative capabilities that are genuinely rare: many management graduates have limited language skills, and many language graduates have limited commercial training. The ability to do both gives graduates a distinctive position in the graduate labour market. Graduates go on to careers in international business, trade, financial services, consultancy, marketing, export management, translation and interpreting, the civil service and European institutions. Further study in international business, management or French is also common for those seeking more specialised or senior roles.
