BA Business Management and Finance
About this course
Business management and finance is a degree that combines two complementary dimensions of organisational life. Management provides the strategic, human and operational frameworks for understanding how organisations work and how to lead them effectively. Finance provides the analytical tools to understand how value is created, capital is allocated and risk is managed, whether within a firm or across financial markets. The combination prepares you for roles that require both commercial judgement and financial literacy, which describes most senior business roles today. At Sheffield Hallam University, this programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich year and a work placement, providing a thoroughly supported pathway from preparation through to professional experience. The foundation year builds the academic and business knowledge you need before progressing to the full degree. The sandwich and placement elements give you direct professional experience in business or finance roles, developing practical skills and commercial awareness that employers consistently identify as important alongside academic qualifications. You will study finance, accounting, corporate governance, risk, marketing, strategy, organisational behaviour and human resource management, with an emphasis on the environmental, social and ethical dimensions of business alongside the technical and analytical. The programme engages with the cultural, digital and technological changes shaping contemporary organisations, so your learning reflects the reality of business as it is rather than as it was. Graduates go into careers in financial management, banking and investment, management consultancy, commercial management, human resources, accounting, marketing and operations across all sectors. The breadth of the combination and the practical experience from the placement make graduates versatile and competitive in the job market. Further study in finance, business or management is available for those who want to deepen their expertise or develop towards senior leadership.
