About this course
Cultural and creative industries bring together the study of culture, media, and the creative economy in a way that prepares you both to understand and to work in the sectors that produce and circulate cultural meaning. Film, television, music, publishing, fashion, gaming, advertising, and the arts are industries that shape how we see the world and generate substantial economic activity, but they are also sites where questions of representation, identity, access, and power play out in important ways. Studying them seriously means developing both practical skills and the critical frameworks to understand what these industries do and how they work. At the University of Nottingham this four-year full-time programme is designed for students who want to engage with the creative industries from multiple angles. The degree begins with a foundation year, which provides a thorough introduction to the concepts, methods, and contexts of cultural and creative industries study before you move into the main programme. You will explore the economics and business structures of creative sectors alongside their cultural histories and contemporary dynamics. You will develop skills in research, analysis, project management, and communication, alongside an understanding of digital technologies and their role in transforming cultural production and distribution. Graduates are well placed to work across the breadth of the creative and cultural economy, including roles in television and film production, music and events management, publishing, arts administration, cultural policy, and marketing and communications. The combination of critical understanding and practical awareness the degree provides is valued by employers in both commercial creative industries and the subsidised cultural sector. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in cultural studies, media and communications, arts management, or related disciplines.
